PURPOSE:To obtain an ink jet recorder having no possibility of a failure in ink delivery by mounting a removing means for removing a material adhering on an electrode for catching particle suspended in a space in the vicinity of a recording head. CONSTITUTION:When an electrothermal energy conversion body 103 of a recording head 1 is driven, a bubble 55 is generated in a recording liquid 112, and a liquid column is projected from a delivery port 111 of the recording head 1. At a next moment, the liquid column is separated from the recording head 1 to become a thin and long liquid drop. This liquid drop flies toward a recording sheet 7. In the polarized liquid drop, the long extended liquid drop is separated into a negatively electrified main drop 53 and a positively electrified satellite 54 because the speed differs between the top end and the rear end. In comparison with the main drop 53, both the delivery volume and speed of the satellite 54 are small. The negatively electrified main drop 53 is landed on the recording sheet 7. On the other hand, the positively electrified satellite 54 is attracted and caught by an electrode 20 to which a negative voltage is applied by a power source 21. The liquid drops collected on the electrode 20 are gathered in a waste ink tank 24 through a gutter 22 and a tube 23 by an air flow 26 from a fan 25. |
