Dyeing composition for keratinous fibres, especially for human keratinous fibres, characterized in that it contains, in an aqueous medium suitable for dyeing the following composition: a) an indole dye; and b) a para-phenylenediamine monosubstituted on one of the amino groups, corresponding to the formula: <IMAGE> (II) in which: R12 denotes a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R13 denotes a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group or a halogen atom; and R14 denotes a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group or a halogen atom; R14 occupying any one of the remaining positions of the benzene ring; as well as the addition salts with an acid, this composition not containing an oxidizing agent other than air.
