PURPOSE:To maintain the upper part in the welding space owing to shrinkage on welding at an adequate gap and to permit prevention of the deformation in the adjacent spaces and to facilitate the detaching of a water cooled copper plate by tapering the welding space between a pair of billets facing each other to widen the side where welding ends and inserting a restraining plate in the adjacent space which is not welded. CONSTITUTION:The gap in a welding space 4 is preliminarily made as wide as to allow for shrinkage on welding and a restraining plate 13 formed to a desired size is inserted into the adjacent welding space 4 which is not welded and therefore even if the inside of the space 4 shrinks, stable welding is accomplished. The deformation due to shrinkage of the adjacent space which is not welded is prevented and a water cooled copper plate 6 is easily removed upon ending of welding. The plate 13 is more effective as said plate is provided nearer the rear of the plate 6 and after welding said plate is cut and removed by gaseous oxygen, acetylene, etc. |
