CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD

PURPOSE:To prevent negative segregation and to improve billet quality by acting a DC magnetic field to a molten metal under electromagnetic stirring thereby regulating the electromagnetic stirring flow into laminar flow. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic stirrer 2 which is a rectangular parallelpiped and an electromagnetic 3 are disposed respectively on the arced inside and outside surface sides of a billet 1 with the billet 1 in-between. The electromagnet 3 is so energized that billet 1 side is an N pole. The magnetic field is impressed in the direction orthogonal with the electromagnetic stirring flow in the unsolidified part. The magnetic flux density is thus increased and the limiting Reynolds number increases and therefore the molten metal in the unsolidified part is stirred to laminar flow. The generation of negative segregation is prevented by the above- mentioned method, by which the billet having excellent quality without having the white band existing therein is obtd.
