PURPOSE:To evade deterioration in image quality due to printing resistance and circulation variation by measuring the surface potential of a photosensitive drum between a potential erasing process and a electrostatic charging process, measuring a residual potential after the potential erasure, and setting exposure energy corresponding to the residual potential. CONSTITUTION:A surface potential sensor measures the residual potential after the potential erasing process and inputs it to a microprocessor. The microprocessor calculates the exposure energy corresponding to the measured residual potential and sets the calculated exposure energy through a D/A converter. The potential of an electrostatic latent image varies corresponding to variation in the exposure energy. Consequently, the balance between a developing bias potential and the electrostatic latent image potential are kept, so the print quality is held constant. |
