Appliance for lifting a seat for a disabled person onto the roof rack of a motor vehicle, which lifting appliance consists of an articulated arm in the shape of a letter "T", in the vertical branch of which it presents the actual bearings for the seat, and at one of the ends of the horizontal branch of the "T" there is a reduction motor, connected to the electrical system of the vehicle, and by means of a chain it drives an axle to which are connected two outer cogwheels and a central cogwheel, the central wheel forms part of a chain drive for lifting a mobile part of the articulated arm corresponding to the bearings for the seat, while the outer wheels engage in the fixed chains of the guide bearings so as to lift and move the assembly comprising the structure and seat, which is concealed in a cowling that covers the top of the roof rack. <IMAGE>
