PURPOSE:To make it possible to use an aqueous solution of HCHO in a high concentration and obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for acetal resins without side reactions, by reacting HCHO in the liquid phase in the presence of an oxy acid, etc. of Mo or W and oxy acid, etc. of Se as a catalyst under heating. CONSTITUTION:HCHO is reacted in the liquid phase, preferably water in the presence of (A) an oxy acid or oxide of Mo or W or a functional derivative thereof and (B) an oxy acid or oxide of Se or a functional derivative thereof, preferably at 0.2-10:1 atomic ratio as a catalyst preferably at 80-130 deg.C for 5min-20hr to afford the aimed trioxane. The amount of the catalyst to be used is preferably 10-100pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. HCHO solution. |
