<p>A shut-off valve (3) in its cylindrical housing (1) opens (dotted lines) under pressure to permit fluid flow inone direction. Valve movement is constrained by the valve stem (4) and guide (2). Flow in the reverse direction ise prevented by closure of the valve under spring (5) pressure. The inner wall of the valve housing (6) has a gradually contoured profile with a concave seat (8) smoothly radiused to a convex mouth (7). The fluid flow follows the profile in such a way that flow separation and cavitation are avoided.</p> |
