A glass vacuum lamp envelope contains an electric filament (2) from which two electrical conductors (4, 5) exit through a fused pinched closure of the envelope (3). The lamp is fitted to one side of a metal tube (10). The ends of the conductors are terminated in folded over metal strips (21) and securely clamped or soldered or welded. The strip forms part of and are embedded in a ceramic plug (12) fitted to the other end of the tube, and a contact tongue (20) projects from the ceramic plug. The plug is held by four punched rivets (16). The tongue forms one pole of the electrical lamp contact. The second pole is formed by a connection between the second conductor and the metal tube (10) through a punched out strip of a similar nature (17).
