PURPOSE:To attain to enhance the response to the concn. of moisture or gas, by coating a substrate with a solution containing specific composite oxide. CONSTITUTION:A responsive medium is obtained by a method wherein a solution of oxide having an amorphous structure represented by formula (wherein MYOZ is at least one of metal oxide and semimetal oxide, 0<=x<1 and 0<=n<18) is applied to a substrate such as a glass plate and dried at ambient temp. - about 300 deg.C. A coating method is not especially limited and there are a dipping method, a coating method and a spray method etc. By this method, the responsive medium excellent in response to the change in the concn. of moisture or gas is obtained.
