<p>The invention relates to a security system for monitoring the operation for releasing a locking mechanism for locking a steering mechanism of a mobile means. According to the invention, the system comprises at least one information support 10 storing an item of information identifying the operator, a means 12 of reading the information, a memory means 13 in which there has previously been stored an item of information which is the same as that stored on the information support and a means of comparison 14 capable of comparing the output from the reading means with the contents of the memory means and of emitting a locking-release signal when the two correspond.
