The invention relates to a process for the preparation of tocopherol acetate according to which, in a first stage, isophytol and trimethylhydroquinone are reacted in the presence of formic acid, in a second stage, the tocopherol/tocopherol formate mixture thus obtained is treated with an alkyl acetate and, in a third stage, the tocopherol formed is acetylated to generate tocopherol acetate.
