PURPOSE:To prepare the title article which is isotropic and has a high elastic modulus easily at a low cost by mixing a polyacrylic acid powder with specified amts. of a metal oxide powder and a water-absorbing material powder, subjecting the resulting powder mixture to powder molding under a high pressure, and thermally curing the resulting premolded article. CONSTITUTION:A polyacrylic acid powder, a metal oxide powder (e.g. a zinc oxide powder) in an amt. of 1/n-1mol (n is an atomic valency of a metal of the oxide) per mol of acrylic acid units, and a water-absorbing material powder (e.g. portland cement) in an amt. of 20-200g per mol of the acid units are mixed homogeneously. The resulting powder mixture is subjected to powder molding at a temp. lower than the softening point of the polyacrylic acid under 500-5,000atm pressure to give a premolded article, which is thermally cured to give the title article suitable for a gear, etc. |
