The toaster has a rectangular housing with a vertical insertion slot for sliced bread and a support frame for rolls etc., provided by two U-shaped wire hoops (5,6). Each of these hoops (5,6) has a bent end at the end of each arm (5c,6c) supported by a pivot mounting, to allow it to be rotated between a horizontal and a vertical position under control of a manual setting knob (7). The latter is attached to a lever (8) which pivots into contact with one hoop (5) upon rotation of the setting knob (7), for displacing it into the vertical position, this hoop (5) in turn similarly displacing the second hoop (6).
