The switch has the poles (12,13) and their switch planes arranged adjacent one another. Each switch pole (12,13) has a switch mechanism (14,15) with a contact carrier (11). Both of the mechanism and carrier are acted on directly by a transverse (26) of a bridge element (24) operated by an impact armature (22) of a magnetic switch release system (16). The release system lies in one half of the housing in the switch plane of one of the two poles (12,13), for acting on the bridge element (24) at one side. The one-sided impact of the armature (22) is equalised by providing the bridge element (24) with guide surfaces (28) and a cooperating guide channel (30).
