The vehicle (2) travels over a solid of soft surface, having a body (3) and drive mechanisms (4, 5) either side of the vertical central plane of the body. These mechanisms each have contact members (6) protruding from them and comprise a cylinder of cone shape at one end, with recesses (4b) for the members, which are wheels bearing against the surface, and which when not travelling forwards or backwards have their axes parallel to that (4c) of the cylinder. The wheels can be slewed about axes at right angles to the cylinder axis, so as to exert thrust on the supporting surface when the cylinder rotates, moving the vehicle forwards or backwards. |
