The warning light has a transparent, coloured hood (2) enclosing a rotating reflector (3) with a light source (8) positioned at its focus. A light shield (5) is positioned between the reflector (3) and the hood (2) provided by a number of slats (6) extending parallel to the horizontal centre plane of the reflector (3) and attached to the latter. Pref. the light shield slats (6) extend across the bottom half of the reflector (3) for blocking direct light over an angular zone extending from the vertical to about 45 degrees below the horizontal plane containing the optical axis of the reflector (3).
