Controlled-release pharmaceutical compsns. contain a carrier which is an emulsion polymer with a particle size of 50-500 nm and a glass temp. of -20 to +80 deg.C. Pref. the compsns are formulated as tablets, capsules, or transdermal films. They contain 0.1-30 (esp. 1-10) wt.% active ingredient, esp. clonidine, in a carrier which is an emulsion-polymerised copolymer of methyl and/or ethyl acrylate and methacrylate with a glass temp of -10 to +30 deg.C. Granules with a particle size of 10-500 microns are formed by dissolving the active ingredient and carrier in an organic solvent, evaporating the solvent, and grinding. The granules are pressed into tablets or introduced into capsules. Films are formed by dissolving the active ingredient and carrier in an organic solvent, casting the soln to form a film, evaporating the solvent, and providing the film with a vapour-impermeable backing and opt an adhesive layer. The film thickness is 40-200 (esp. 60-140) microns.
