<p>PURPOSE:To attain uniform display or driving characteristics without generation of zigzag defects, etc., by subjecting a liquid crystal compsn. to multidomain orientation and providing the cell thereof as an optical shutter between a photosensitive body and a light source. CONSTITUTION:A pair of light transparent substrates 1, 6 and the liquid crystal compsn. material 10 constitute the liquid crystal cell 22. This liquid crystal compsn. has the multidomain orientation gathered with many microdomains. Such liquid crystal cell 22 is provided as the optical shutter between the photosensitive drum 23 and the light source 21. The liquid crystal compsn. having an ester bond in the main skeleton is incorporated into the liquid crystal compsn. Good on-off control of light rays is executed with 4,800 pieces of the light rays in one line at the time of turning 4,800 pieces of the light rays on and off. The reason thereof lies in that the orientation of the liquid crystal in the liquid crystal cell is in the multidomain state. The uniform on and off of the light rays are executed in nearly all the parts.</p> |
