PURPOSE:To reproduce a monochroic picture by one write at the operation of monochroic color mode by using luminance information data obtained from color picture information as a density data in reproducing the monochroic picture based on the color picture information. CONSTITUTION:Since luminance information data VR+VC represent the density of a picture of each color, the data are utilized for density data of a reproducing picture. A comparison circuit 22' is connected to the output side of a buffer 31 and the luminance information data VR+VC held in the buffer 31, that is, the density data used for reproducing the monochroic picture is inputted to the comparator circuit 22'. A color designation signal S from a color select circuit 24' is inputted to a changeover circuit 29 at the operation of the monochroic mode. When the operation signal is inputted to an ink jet head 26, the head acts like jetting black ink onto the paper on a rotary drum 30 based on the binary-coded data for reproducing monochroic picture from the comparison circuit 22' to reproduce the monochroic picture, that is, the achromatic picture.
