PURPOSE:To prevent fuel gas from being exhausted without lowering a power generating efficiency by changing the amount of air supply in response to operating modes. CONSTITUTION:When electric power is generated with both fuel gas and air supplied, so that a fuel cell is thereby operated in an operating mode where there is a great possibility of gas exhaustion at the surface of the fuel cell, the flow rate of air is increased in order that an air utilization factor is lowered, so that the possibility of the excessive concentration of load current to an air inlet section is thereby lowered. By this constitution, the cell can thereby be prevented from being damaged due to the exhaustion of fuel gas without an excessive reduction of a power generating efficiency. |
