A metal orthodontic auxiliary component has an optically visible marking surface (36,38) consisting of the upper surface of an auxiliary meltable structure layer (26,28). The latter may be part of the surface of the component. The surface of the layer may be roughened. The rough surface layer may reoult from the reaction products produced by the medium which surrounds the component. The layer may have a uniform or a variable thickness. The thickness may be stepwise variable. The layer may be produced by localised melting of the metal of the component, e.g. my laser, electron beam or microplasma. The roughness may be produced by immersing the component in a medium which reacts with the metal when it is melted. |
