PURPOSE:To contrive the miniaturization and lightening of an autotransformer by reducing an insulation distance by making a potential of a shielding ring arranged at the lower end of a shunt winding a higher potential than that of the lower end of the shunt winding as a neutral potential. CONSTITUTION:An end shielding ring 15 is arranged at the lower end of a shunt winding 3 which is connected to a potential drawing point 17 in the middle of the winding 3 through a connection lead 16. A potential of the ring 15 is made a higher ground potential than that of the lower end of the winding 3 as a neutral potential. Then, a voltage generated between the ring 15 and a lower end shielding ring 11 of a series winding 4, that is, difference in potential becomes small. Accordingly, the insulation distance is reduced and the miniaturization and lightening of an autotransformer can be contrived.
