PURPOSE:To rapidly obtain a reformed gas containing a low concentration of carbon monoxide by grading the power density of an electric heater equipped in a catalyst layer of the subject reactor for converting carbon monoxide in the direction of stream of a steam-reformed gas and more rapidly leading the conversion reaction of carbon monoxide to the stationary state even at a stage immediately after the starting. CONSTITUTION:In a reactor for converting carbon monoxide equipped with a reaction vessel 5; a catalyst layer 9 made in the vessel 5 and containing a packed conversion catalyst 8 for converting a steam-reformed gas obtained by steam reforming a hydrocarbon-based raw fuel circulating in the vessel 5 and containing a high concentration of carbon monoxide to a reformed gas containing a low concentration of carbon monoxide; and an electric heater 13 equipped in the catalyst layer 9 in the direction of the stream of the steam- reformed gas;, the power density of the electric heater 13 in the direction of the stream of the steam-reformed gas is designed so as to become higher from the outlet part 11 of the steam-reformed gas of the catalyst layer 9 to the inlet part 10 in order (Heating wire 16 in wound so that density of wire turns may be higher towards the inlet of gas). |
