PURPOSE:To detect a battery capacity with high accuracy by providing a detection means for detecting the capacity of a battery, a drive control means for driving a drive load for a predetermined period just before a recording action, and a detection control means for making the detection means detect the capacity within a predetermined period. CONSTITUTION:In a low battery error state, the level of a battery capacity is too lowered to ensure the drive of a carriage and a capping member. If a recorder is driven in this state, the function of the device is stopped just after, e.g., the start of recording. Received recording information may be erased, a failure in driving the carriage and the capping member may result in an ink delivery port being left unsealed, and other failures may occur. Then, a residual battery capacity is positively detected just before the capping member is separated from the ink delivery port at the start of recording. In a step S1, a discharge current of the battery is momentarily controlled to an appropriate magnitude by loading pulses. Meanwhile, the excitation of a carriage motor phase is started for detecting the voltage of the battery. Namely, the drive of a carriage motor 8 is started. In a step S2, a fixed time t1 is counted until the drop of the battery voltage is substantially saturated. In a step S3, the battery voltage is detected. In this manner, the capacity can be detected with high accuracy. |
