The new compound bromofluoroethylhypofluorite, having the formula CF2BrCF2OF is obtained by starting from by the reaction in gaseous phase with fluorine, in the presence of a catalyst constituted by CsF on a support constitu ted by copper (or by another metal) in the form of a porous material having a surface area of at least 0.1 m2/g.
