PURPOSE:To prevent baking on a border line by displaying a pattern of a High Vision broadcast on an upper part of a screen of a receiver and displaying general broadcast on a lower position of the upper position of the screen with reduction. CONSTITUTION:When a pattern 15 of an HDTV (High Vision) broadcast whose aspect ratio is 9:16 is displayed on a screen 14 of a general television receiver or an EDTV (Clear Vision) receiver, the signal of the pattern is stored in a video memory 2 so as to be displayed on a position of 3/4 from the upper part of the screen 14, and the television receiver is provided with a circuit for processing a video signal 3 for reduction pattern from the general TV or EDTV broadcast whose aspect ratio is 3:4 and four reduced patterns generated by using the video signal data are stored in the memory 2 so as to be displayed on the screen. The pattern 15 whose aspect ratio is 9:16 generated from the HDTV video signal 1 is read from the memory 2 and displayed on the upper part of the screen 14 and the pattern whose aspect ratio is 3:4 is read so as to be displayed on the screen by the four reduced patterns arranged side by side in the horizontal direction onto the lower part of the screen 14. |
