The subject of the invention is a fitting for a window, door or the like. In order to make it possible to assume exactly at least two separate sliding positions of an espagnolette rod (6) provided, for example, with locking elements, this rod being displaced by means of a control pinion (11) rotating in a housing (10) of a mechanism and driven by means of a handle (9) via a shaft (12), the handle (9) must be placed reliably in corresponding separate rotary positions. For this purpose, a spacer bush (17) concentrically surrounding the shaft (12) is connected to the housing (10) without being capable of rotating. It is associated, by means of a stop-notch device (27), with a serrated ring (26) placed inside the handle (9), this ring being displaceable axially counter to the resistance of the return spring (29). The stop-notch device (27) defines the separate rotary positions of the handle (9). The field of use of the invention is fittings for windows and the like. <IMAGE>
