PURPOSE:To secure desirable knocking control performance by providing a background level correcting means for correcting the background level according to the change rates of engine speed and engine load. CONSTITUTION:During transient operation, the response delay of BGL (background level) becomes larger as the change rates of engine speed and engine load become larger. The BGL is therefore corrected by a correcting means accordingly, that is, in the positive direction at the time of acceleration and in the negative direction at the time of deceleration. In a knocking judging means, the reference value obtained by adding the corrected BGL to the slice level is compared to the detection value of engine vibration detected by a detecting means to judge knocking. As a result, the knocking judging accuracy even during transient operation can be as high as during steady operation. |
