The vehicle roof-mounted, flat-format air conditioner for buses, has the condenser fitted flush behind the evaporator. Cooling air (P) for the condenser enters through a vertically facing, axially central air inlet (20), passing through the condenser heat exchanger (21) to a lower main chamber (23). The air then passes to secondary chambers (24), arranged either side of the heat exchanger and in which fans (22) are fitted. The fans direct the air out of the unit. ADVANTAGE - Reduced height of the air conditioning unit.
