A lifting eyelet or shackle (1) is of rectangular shape, but with one side of semi-circular form. The lifting eyelet is retained by a fitting (3) with a central hole for a fixing bolt (2). The fitting has a projecting claw which fits over the end (15) of the lifting eyelet opposite to the curved end (11) of the side gripped by the claw. The shape of the fitting ensures that the pivot axis (11) ofthe eyelet and the axis of the fixing bolt do not intersect.
