Stereo camera for surface structure esp. of teeth - projects two beams from equal and opposite angles for illumination of surface monitored by image sensor

Light from two LEDs or other sources (18) is projected by prisms (21) through slots (22,23) in a screen (24), and focused by lenses (L3,L4) on to the surface of a tooth (15). Linear reference patterns are generated by liq. crystal devices or gratings (19,20) in respective beams (13,14). Central rays (25,26) enclose an acute angle (beta) bisected by the optical axis (27) along which a reflected ray passes through a third slot in the screen (24) to a frame transfer CCD image sensor (17). ADVANTAGE - All details of surface structure can be represented and measured with two beams projected from different directions.
