The lightweight construction element for building walls, pillars, ceilings and roofs consists of a panel (1) made from a pretreated straw impregnated with a binder. The thermal insulation properties of the panel are increased by cavities (2) which extend over the length of the panel. Each panel has a flange (4) projecting from three edges, with a groove along the fourth edge. Apart from flat panels, the material may be used to produce L- and H-section construction elements. The material may be treated to be fire-proof.
