Electrostatographic colour proofs (I) having substantially the same appearance as colour prints produced by offset or gravure printing processes w.r.t. transparency and gloss of image areas relative to image-free areas, the (I) comprising a receptor sheet bearing image-free and image areas on its surface, the image areas consisting of colour deposits in the form of at least one colour layer and being formed by electroscopic marking particles of appropriate colour on an electrostatographic recording member and then transferred from this onto the receptor sheet by the steps of (A) providing electroscopic marking particles of appropriate colour consisting of a colourant and a polymeric binder, (B) applying a solvent to the surface of the receptor sheet and transferring the deposits of all the appropriate colours from the electrostatographic recording member onto the receptor sheet, the solvent being capable of solvating the binder in the electroscopic marking particles forming the colour deposit to transparentise and increase the gloss of the colour deposit and to render this adherent to the receptor sheet surface without affecting the gloss of this in the image-free areas; and (C) removing the solvent from the receptor sheet.
