Membranes (I), esp. gas sepn. or pervaporation membranes, are claimed. (I) are based onm polymers of formula (II) R1, R2 = 1-18C linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbyl (opt. with a C=C double bond in the main or side chain or with O or N atom(s) in the main or side chain or as lateral substits., and opt. substd. with Ph or naphthyl; R2 can also be substd. with Hal), aromatic hydrocarbyl (opt. substd. with 1-6C alk(en)yl gp(s)). or an aromatic or non-aromatic heterocycle; R1/R2 can be the same or different in different repeating units of (II): m = n (approx.). any C=C bonds in R1 and/or R2 are capable of being crosslinked. More specifically R1 = 1-10C, 12C, 14C or 18C linear alkyl, similar branched alkyl (esp. iso-4C, -5C, -10C, oleyl or 2-propenyl), chiral (R)-(+)- or (S)-(-)-1-phenylethyl, (R)-(+)- or (R)-(-)-1-cyclohexyl or (R)-(+)- or (S)-(-)-1-(1-naphthyl), 3C, 5C, 6C, 8C or 12C cycloalkyl or -(CH2)3OR' (with R' = H, oleyl, 6-hexenoyl, 10-decenoyl or CPR'' (with R'' 0 linear or branched alkyl , methoxyethoxypropyl, Ph or trimethylphenyl)), R2 = 1-18C linear alkyl, 1-18C branched alkyl (esp. iso-4C or iso-5C), 2-chloroethyl, methoxyethyl or -((CH2)2-O)n-R''' (with R''' = Me or Et, n = 1-10), 3-100 (pref. 3-10 or 100)% of gps. R1 and/or R2 contain a C=C gp., at least one of the gps. R1/R2 comprises a unit -R-CH=CH2 (with R = 2-9C hydrocarbyl, opt. contg. a CO gp.); (II) is applied (esp. in soln.) to a known substrate and the C=C bonds are crosslinked, pref. (II) is precrosslinked in soln. and further crosslinked on the substrate, pref. by heating, polymer film (II) is 0.5-200 microns thick, the film can be produced by crosslinking C=C gps. already present in (II). or by introducing suitable gps. after polymerisation.
