The wake queue invention (70) provides a method whereby processors of differing capability can efficiently communicate. This allows improved efficiency in distributing the operating system. Slowere coprocessors can queue entries (80) in areas referred to as wake queues. Access to these wake queues is governed by a queueing mechanism (90) which utilizes the global registers to synchronize multiple concurrent producers (80) and multiple concurrent consumers (30). When a fast processor runs the kernel process assigned to handle the wake queue (70), entries (80) are pulled off of the wake queue and the information in that entry is processed. Implementations can vary widely depending upon the information and processing desired.
|
