PURPOSE:To prepare the subject compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals and additives in high selectivity without the generation of waste water by reacting aniline with 2-propanol and/or propylene in the presence of a specific catalyst in a gas phase. CONSTITUTION:Aniline is made to react with 2-propanol and/or propylene in a molar ratio of preferably (0.2-5):1 in the presence of a pentasil type crystalline aluminosilicate having ten-membered oxygen containing ring and a fine opening therein at 200-400 deg.C, preferably at 270-330 deg.C, in a gas phase to prepare the objective compound. The pentasil type crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst containing protons and having SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of <=300, especially <=100, is preferable because of having a high activity. Especially, the catalyst having a ZSM-5 type or ZSM-11 type structure is preferable. |
