Organosilane modified aqueous emulsions of film-forming polymers are provided which are particularly suitable for use in formulating heat resistant protective coatings for metal substrates subject to temperatures in excess of 150 DEG C, for example, engines, manifold pipes, mufflers and brake linings. The organosilane modified aqueous emulsions are produced by the addition of a particular reactive organosilane additive to an emulsion of an air-drying film-forming polymer.
