<p>A method for promoting the germination of seed, particularly grass seed, is described. A foraminous sheet of intertwined water-impermeable strips and/or fibres is preferably laid on the sown seed, suitably outdoors, and the seed typically left to germinate under natural conditions of temperature, light and rainfall (although artificial watering may be practised if necessary). The sheet has a carefully selected mesh density, suitably above 65%. A sheet formed of polyethylene strips and/or fibres intertwined in a knitted lockstitch arrangement of mesh density 85% has been found to be particularly suitable.</p> |
