PURPOSE:To solve the problem that a cathode absorbs nearly all phosphoric acid by inserting a sheet made of a mixture of polytetra fluoroethylene and carbon black between the cathode and a matrix. CONSTITUTION:A sheet made of PTFE/C is inserted between a cathode and a matrix. The sheet preferably has the fine hole peak in the range 0.05-0.20mum, this peak range is smaller than the peak range (0.01-10mum) of the normal cathode, even if both of them are brought into contact with each other, an electrolyte held in the above sheet is not absorbed by the cathode and is held in the sheet, and the balance of the electrolyte is kept satisfactory. The direct contact between the above matrix and the cathode is prevented by the existence of the sheet, the absorption quantity of the phosphoric acid held in the matrix into the cathode is limited to the minimum, the reduction of the gas diffusion in the cathode is suppressed, and the reduction of the cell potential can be prevented. The cell life can be sharply extended as compared with the case when no sheet is inserted. |
