EVALUATING METHOD OF PERFORMANCE OF ION-EXCHANGE RESIN

PURPOSE:To make it possible to evaluate with high sensitivity the overall dynamic performance of resin in the course of its use in an apparatus by making salt-containing raw water flow through a test column in which anion-exchange resin and cation- exchange resin are filled up alternately and by measuring the quality of the treated water. CONSTITUTION:Anion-exchange resin AR and cation-exchange resin CR to be evaluated are divided equally in a plurality and then the divided resins are filled up in layers alternately in a test column. Salt-containing raw water is made to flow through the test column and the quantity of the treated water is measured. On the occasion, the uppermost one of the filled layers is made to be the AR and the lowermost one the CR. It is desirable that the quality of the treated water is evaluated by measurement of electrical conductivity. The water is made to flow under the same conditions through a control column filled up with fresh AR and fresh CR in the same way as in the test column, the qualities of the treated water in the two columns are compared with each other and thereby evaluation of the performance of the resin can be executed. It is desirable that the quantity of resin filled in the test column is made to be a quantity corresponding to the minimum quantity of the fresh resin required for making the quality of the treated water in the control column have the electrical conductivity of 0.07muS/cm or below.
