The stabilizing method for alkaline earth sulfide fluorescent material is characterized by reacting alkaline earth fluorescent material of formula MS:A with oxalic acid (C2O4H2) to give MC2O4 on the surface of fluorescent material. In the formula MS:A, M is Mg, Ca, Ba, or Sr, and A is Eu, Ce, or Mn. The amount of C2O4H2 used is 0-5 mol.% with respect to MS:A. The stabilized fluorescent material shows a good brightness. Conbined with conventional treatment by SiO2 or CH3OH,this method can prevent lowering in fluorescent characteristics. The fluorescent stabilized by the above method can be used for fluorescent screen of color broun tube to obtain a good fluorescence.
