<p>PURPOSE:To easily obtain high-purity hydrogen at a low cost by subjecting hydrocarbons successively to a steam reforming reaction and a water gas shift reaction, then passing the gaseous product through a methanation catalyst to convert the contained CO to methane and removing the methane by pressure- difference adsorption and desorption. CONSTITUTION:Hydrocarbons (e.g. methane) are subjected to a steam reforming reaction, and the obtained reformed gas is subjected to a water gas shift reaction to produce a gas consisting essentially of hydrogen and contg. carbon dioxide and unreacted hydrocarbons. The gaseous product is brought into contact with a methanation catalyst to convert the contained carbon monoxide to methane, and the product is supplied to a pressure-difference adsorption and desorption device to remove methane, etc. As a result, pure hydrogen is produced without need for the large-scale pretreating device and special adsorbent. Besides, methanol can be used in place of hydrocarbons, and a water gas shift reaction is not needed in that case.</p> |
