PURPOSE:To obtain a binder undergoing no reduction in the strength at medium temp. with easily available materials by blending alumina cement with blast furnace slag, a siliceous material, a boron compd. and an alkali metal compd. CONSTITUTION:This binder consists of, by weight, 15-60% alumina cement, 25-75% blast furnace slag, 5-15% siliceous material, 0.1-5% (expressed in terms of B2O3) boron compd. and 1.5-4% (expressed in terms of K2O and/or Na2O) alkali metal compd. The strength of the conventional binder in refractories is made lower than the dry strength after heat treatment at 800-1,000 deg.C but this binder has rather higher strength and can eliminate the defects of the conventional binder at medium temp. |
