PURPOSE:To obtain the subject high-purity substance excellent in viscosity characteristics and suitable for a thickener, etc., at a low cost by crushing a seed oil cake after extracting oils from seeds containing a mucilage on the surface layer thereof, separating the mucilage and albumen parts from the surface layer, classifying the crushed material and dividing it into the respective parts. CONSTITUTION:In production of a mucilage from seeds containing the mucilage on the surface layer thereof, a seed oil cake after extracting oils from the seeds (e.g. seed of linseed) containing the mucilage (e.g. mucilage in linseed) on the surface layer thereof is crushed using a hammer mill, etc., to separate the mucilage and albumen parts from the surface skin. The crushed material of the seed oil cake is subsequently classified by the sieve classification method, etc., using a blower shifter, etc., to isolate the mucilage, the surface skin and the albumen parts, respectively. The isolated mucilage is recovered, thus obtaining the objective seed mucilage. In addition, the above-mentioned crushing of the seed oil cake may be carried out after preliminary crushing and classification. |
