NC 24-2 (FERM P-11237) having the following mycological properties. Shape; bacillus with motility. Gram-negative. Sufficiently growing in bouillon agar slant culture. Reduction of nitrates; -. Hydrolysis of starch; -. Utilization of inorganic nitrogen sources; -. Urease; -. Catalase; +. Growth temperature; 15-60 deg.C. Growth optimun temperature; 40-50 deg.C. Aerobic to O2. Utilizing glucose without utilizing mannose, etc. The resultant strain, as necessary, is culture to provide a culture, which is then subjected to extraction treatment to produce an enzyme decomposing the substituted carbonyl group. The obtained enzyme is then reacted with glutamine, etc., at about 70 deg.C to decompose only the substituted carbonyl group in the L-isomer and produce the objective L-amino acid.
