The unit is for interfacing a hard disk driver (HDD) or a floppy disk driver (FDD) to expand the process capacity and the memory capacity of a G-4 facsimile. The unit includes a FDD controller (140) for relaying a CPU (100) and a FDD (120) or a memory (110) and a FDD (120) a relay controller (180) for transmitting data between a CPU (100) and a FDD (121-12N) or HDD (130-13n), a bus controller for relaying control signal between a direct memory access controller (DMAC) and a FDD (120) or between small computer system interfaces (SCSI), and an address decoder (160) for designating the operating mode of relay unit by address signals transmitted from the DMAC (170).
