PURPOSE:To improve oxidation and corrosion resistances to slag, molten metal, etc., by adding specific amounts of Al-Zr alloy powder, in which the mole ratio of Al to Zr is regulated to a value in the prescribed range, to a refractory material; consisting of carbonaceous raw material and alumina refractory material. CONSTITUTION:A refractory material is prepared by mixing 5-90wt.% carbonaceous material (e.g., flaky graphite) and 95-10wt.% alumina refractory material (e.g., electromelted alumina). Subsequently, an Al-Zr alloy powder, in which Al/Zr by mole is regulated to 10/1 to 1/3, is added to the above refractory material by 1-20wt.% to produce a carbon-containing unburnt refractory. By this method, oxidation resistance, etc., as defects can be improved without deteriorating the characteristics of the carbon-containing alumina refractory material, that is superior spalling resistance and high strength at high temp. By using the resulting refractory, furnace service life can be prolonged. |
