The control device is used to prevent the overflow of a buffer memory (8) associated with a coder (7) for the video images by holding the video camera parameters unaltered when a given filling level of the buffer memory (8) is reached. Pref. a timer (5,6) is activated when the buffer memory (8) reaches a given filling level, the adjustment of the camera parameters, e.g. the focal length, less aperture, while balance, is only effected after the elapse of the timer internal, the timer (5,6) then being reset.
