Height-measurement device of the suspended type which includes a main measuring unit and a movable rule at a right angle, which both include a casing, a measuring- tape reel and a control key for immobilising the tape. The device may be adhered and hung above any location situated on a wall and, after having been set to zero, it allows the user to read off its height directly from the window by simply displacing downwards the right-angle movable rule located below, as far as the upper part of the head. As a variant, the user may read off the figure from the counter (meter) or from the electronic visual presentation device by virtue of the series of small holes with the same passage formed in the measuring tape in order to cause a toothed wheel to rotate which, in turn, actuates a gear-train system or a high-precision variable resistance element, the figure on the visual presentation device finally being represented by means of a mechanical or electrical transfer.
